First and foremost, welcome to my website 🙂
My name is Dagmara K. Kubisiak and I am a Master certified court interpreter in the English – Polish language combination in the states of NJ, NY and PA. I am also a nationwide accredited medical interpreter and a translator. On a more personal level, though, I have been labeled… a nerd, a geek, or, as my family members say, a knowledge maniac. And, although I proudly consider myself to be an avid linguist and a knowledge enthusiast, the truth of the matter is that I do love a written, spoken or any kind of word – as long as it is a word.
No. Seriously. My word infatuation started probably still in my cradle when my beloved grandmother lulled me to sleep with beautiful stories of enchanted forests, mean leprechauns, gorgeous princesses, and charming knights in shining armors. She simply instilled the love for words in my brain so much so that by the age of 20 I spoke English, German, and Latin. Then, I studied English phonology at one of the best universities in Poland, and taught English in local elementary and high schools. Finally, some tangled circumstances of life brought me to America, and I was finally able to utilize my knowledge of English to my heart’s content.
From the very beginning of my professional life in this foreign country, the English language proved to be the bread and butter of my life. The ability to speak a language, any language for that matter, is absolutely the greatest passion of mine – an obsession giving me the biggest thrill ever. For many years, I divided my professional time between working as a paralegal –Â handling Workers’ Compensation, Personal Injury, and Estate Litigation cases – and serving as an interpreter within the Polish community of New Jersey. However, I was still holding on to my passion for a written word. For two years, between 2010 and 2012, I ran my own (very popular, by the way) column in the biggest Polish Daily News of New York City –Â Nowy Dziennik. In the column entitled Speak like an American, I advised Polish speaking readers, in Polish, on how to acquire the English language effectively and how to avoid the most common pitfalls in the process.
Finally, I decided to merge my love for and knowledge of law with my passion for languages and I became a fully-fledged interpreter. In 2014, I received my Master certification from the Administrative Offices of the New Jersey and Pennsylvania Courts as well as my national medical accreditation. I love what I do. I am honestly obsessed with it. I incessantly strive for linguistic excellence by not only studying and practicing on a regular basis, but also by attending workshops, seminars, and conferences, whenever I can. Thanks to my Polish upbringing and ongoing, frequent visits to my native country, I successfully embrace being not only a bilingual interpreter but also, what is so parallel in importance, a bicultural one. I literally eat, breathe, and dream about interpreting and translation every day. The overwhelming feeling of accomplishment I get from helping others by facilitating communication is definitely the most rewarding feeling of all.
Accordingly, I will be more than happy to assist you in your communication with the world, be it a court, a prison, a hospital, a business meeting, a science summit, a parent-teacher conference, or any type of conference for that matter. If you are an attorney, a doctor, or some other business professional in need of getting through to your limited English proficiency client, you have found the right person. Let me be the solution, the missing puzzle, the connector, the good tooth-fairy that will get you understood with ease… and, on top of that, let me help you to get your message across in the most effective, reliable, and professional way possible.
